Genus: Athenar WHITLOCK, GARDERES, GALLINA & LAMANNA, 2025
Etymology: In honor of Cleveland musician and notable Pittsburgh Steelers fan Athenar, whose music wsa teh soundtrack of the majoirty of the work done on this specimen and for whom no better paleontological comparison exists than a broken skull.

Etymology: In honor of David S. Berman, who, in collaboration with John S. ("Jack") McIntosh, did so much of the fumdamental modern work on diplodocid skulls at Carnegie Museum of Natural History and was responsible for the initial description of the specimen.

Holotype: CM 26552 (DNM 175/A) (formerly catalogued CM 1201, which has been assigned to 2 specimens).
Locality: Quarry face as exposed inside the Dinosaur National Monument Visitor Center, Carnegie Quarry, Vernal, Uintah County, Utah.
Horizon: Brushy Basin Member, Morrison Formation.
Biostratigraphy: Zone 3.
Age: Upper Part, Comobluffian age, Kimmeridgian Stage, Uppermost Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.
Material:: Braincase
