Etymology: As per Ben Cresiler “Touareg (Nigerian dialect), ourane, “brave”, and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: “brave lizard”.

Species: nigeriensis TAQUET, 1976
Etymology: In reference to country of Niger.
= Ouranosaurus nigeriensis TAQUET, 1972 (nomen nudum)

Holotype: MNHN GDF 300

Locality: 7 km south-east of El Rhaz, Gadoufaoua, Niger.

Horizon: El Rhaz Formation, Tegama Series.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Aptian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Skull and skeleton.

 

Paratype:

MNHH GDF 381 (and MSNVE 3714, the Venice specimen).

Locality: 4 km south of Innocents, Niger.
