Etymology: In reference to the province of La Pama, Argentina, where the type specimen was found, and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Species: cholinoi CORIA, GONZALEZ RIGA & CASADIO, 2012
Etymology: In honor of Jose Cholino, who found the type material.

Holotype: MPHN-Pv-01

Locality: Islas Malvinas, Puelen Department, southeast La Pama Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Lower Allen Formation, Malargue Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Campanian-Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Partial single skeleton including cervical, dorsal, sacaral, and caudal vertebrae, dorsal ribs, left scapula and coracoid, right femur, 2 pedal phalanges, one of which is an ungual.
