Etymology: Latin, darco, "dragon," and Latin, rex, "king": Dragon King.

Species: hogwartsia BAKKER, SULLIVAN, PORTER, LARSON & SAULSBURY, 2006
Etymology: After the fictional "Hogwarts Academy," invention of author J. K. Rowling, the species name is in honor of her contribution to children's education and the joy of exploration.

Holotype: TCMI 2004.17.1

Locality: Exact location reserved for qualified workers, South Dakota.

Horizon: Middle part of the Hell Creek Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Lancian age, upper Maastrichtian Stage, uppermost Senonian subepoch, Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Nearly complete skull, one lower tooth, 1st, 3rd, 8th and 9th cervical vertebrae.
