Etymology: Anasazi from the prehistoric people who lived in Chaco Canyon, San Juan Basin, New Mexico near the type locality, saurus Latin for lizard.

Species: horneri HUNT & LUCAS, 1993
Etymology: In honor of John Horner

Holotype: BYU 12950

Locality: Betonnie Tsosie Arroyo (incorrectly referred to Kimbeto Arroyo), San Juan Basin, New Mexico.

Horizon: Early Kirtland Formation, probably correlative with the Farmington Member.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Kirtlandian age, Upper Campanian Stage- Lower Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian subepoch, Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: A partial skull.
