Etymology: Latin, mirus, “wonderful or marvellous" and Latin, saura, “reptile”; Wonderful reptile.

Etymology: In honor of Louis Grauvogel, who extensively excavted the Gres a Voltzia localities and discovered Mirasaura.
Holotype: SMNS 97278
Locality: Vosges Mountains, Eastern France.
Horizon: Lower unite (Gres a meules) of teh Gres a Voltzia Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Early Ansian Stage, early Mid Triassic Epoch, Early Triassic.
Material: An articulated skull and poorly preserved postcranium including largely complete crest
