Etymology: Genus name from the Proto-Germanic 'klainja' (small: nominative singular feminine, 'jo) and Greek, saura, "lizard" (femenine).

Species: staroskalja SOBRAL & SCHOCH, 2026
Etymology: From the Proto-Germanic 'Staraz' (stiff; nominative singualr feminine: -o) and 'skaljo' (Scale, feminine niminative singular, but in greek style to match the genus name), referring to the immobile nature of the squamosal.

Holotype: SMNS 91643

Locality: Schumann limestone quarry, south-east of Eschenau, municipality of Velberg, Baden-Württenburg State, Germany.

Horizon: Lower Keuper (Erfurt Formation).

Biostratigraphy: Untere Graue Mergel, unit E6c-d.

Age: Longobardian, Ladinian Stage, Late Mid Triassic Epoch, Late Middle Triassic.

Material: Frontal, a squamosal and a partial left dentary.
