Etymology: Anar (“the other”), a dwarf in Norse mythology (Voluspa 11 & 15), alluding to the animals small size, and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: Anar’s lizard.

Holotype: Institut und Museum fur Geologie und Palaontologie, Georg-August-Universitat, Gottingen.

Locality: Rembersleban 15km west of Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt State, Germany.

Biostratigraphy: as per RIEPPEL, 2000…orbicularis-marls of Remkersleben (Dames, 1890). According to modern statrigraphy: Judicarites and Neoschizodus orbicularis assemblage zone.

Age: Lower Illyrian, Upper Anisian Stage, Lower Mid Triassic Epoch, Middle Triassic.

Material: Skull and fragmentary skeleton.

Note: Destroyed during WWII.
