Etymology: Latin, vigil, "to stay awake" and Latin, sauros, "reptiles."

Species: gaochangensis CHEN & LIU, 2022
Etymology: In reference to ancient kingdom where the specimen was discovered.

Holotype: IVPP V22764

Locality: South Taodonggou, Daheyan, Turpan, Xinjing Province, China.

Horizon: Guodikeng Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Changhsingian Stage, Lopingian Subepoch, Late Zechstein Epoch, Late Permian.

Material: A partially left hindlimb, missing the proximal part of the femur and some toe digits.
