Genus: Sauropia MÜLLER, ROBERTO-DA-SILVA, AURELIO & KERBER, 2026
Etymology: Greek, sauros, "lizard" and Portuguese, pia, "young boy"; a reginoal term from southern Brazil rooted in Gaucho culture, particularly in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, where it is commonly used to refere to a child. The name allueds to the small size and putative early ontognetic stage of the holotype.

Etymology: Greek, makros, “large”, and Greek, rhinos, “nose or snout”, in reference to the proprotionally enlarged external naris of the holotype.

Holotype: CAPPA/UFSM 0510

Locality: Cortaod site, 29°44'52"S, 53°01'48"W, Novo Cabrais Municipulity, Parana Basin, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil.

Horizon: Pinheiros-Chiniqua Sequence, Santa /Maria Supersequence, Santa Maria Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Ladinian Stage, Late Middle Triassic Epoch, Late Middle Triassic.

Material: An almost complete skull with mandible in occlusion.
