Etymology: Malagasy, lasa, "from past" and Latin, saurus, "reptile."

Etymology: In honr of Laurence Beltan (former palaeoichthyologist at MNHN, Paris) who found the nodule.

Holotype: MNHN.F.MAE 3039

Locality: Near the Ambodipo village, near the Mamoro River, East of Ankitokazo, Ambilobe District, Antsiranana Province, Diana Region, North of Madagascar.

Horizon: Middle Sakamena Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Smithian (Olenekian) Stage, upper Scythian Epoch, Early Triassic.

Material: Half of a ferro-calcareous nodule containing the mould of a relatively complete skeleton preserving the skull, mandible, hyoid apparatus, and presacral region.
