Etymology: In reference to the village of Old Mpundu in the northern Luangwa Basin near Drysdall & Kitching's Localty 4 and Latin, -ensis, "from or pertaining to."

Holotype: PB/1/3899

Locality: Localiy 4, northern Luangwa Basin, Zambia.

Horizon: Upper Madumabsia Mudstone Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Tartanian age, Early Lopingian Subepoch, Zechstein Epoch, Late Permian.

Material: Skull of a sub-adult lacking much of the external surface of the cranium due to erosion.
