Etymology: Greek, avita, "ancient, primitive," in reference to this being an older record of pipoids in South American than those previously known and Greek, batrachos, "frog": Ancient frog.

Etymology: In honor the the late Miguel Angel Uliana, for his important contribution to the knowledge of the stratigraphy and evolution of the Neuquen Basin.

Holotype: MUCPv 123

Locality: El Gigante, eastern margin of the artifical lake Embalse Ezequiel Ramos Mexia, Rio Nigero Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Basal part of the Candeleros Formation, Rio Limay Subgroup, Neuquen Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Uppermost Albian-Lowermost Cenomanian Stage, Upper Gallic subepoch, Lowest Gulf Epoch, Late Early to Early Middle Cretaceous.

Material: Fragmentary skull and fragmentary skeleton.
